Recognizing your relationship with your mind is an incredible journey to make a difference – an opportunity to change the habits of the mind – patterns of thinking, feelings and ways of responding. give yourself a gift to make a difference in leading your life.
Introspection is about stepping inside and meeting ‘myself’ a few times a day. It is not about rejecting life or its challenges, neither is it about isolation. We choose to be quiet and turn inwards, not out of fear or distaste, but because it fills us with confidence and a sense of direction. It gives us an insight to begin changing ourselves.
PRACTICE SUGGESTION:
I open the door of my mind and step in. I find a quiet moment and just observe my thoughts, I pick out the best and feel welcomed into my space. Ask yourself: What does it feel like to be welcomed in your own space?
Mantra : ‘I feel welcomed!’ – Do this several times a day.
Worrying is an illusion. It makes you live in the future with the belief that you are busy and takes you away from the present. Worries are an excuse for not doing what you really have to be doing. With worries, no problems can be resolved.
PRACTICE SUGGESTION:
I become proactive and focus my attention on the present. I act with initiative with the understanding that being calm and free from worries is far more effective.
Ask yourself: What is the feeling of being free from worry?
Mantra : ‘I am in the present!’ – Say this several times a day!
When a person is lost in doubt they cannot believe in the solutions and answers given, not even to the point of experimenting with them, trying to see if they could work. Doubt in an extreme form creates such uncertainty and insecurity that it can cause mental or emotional paralysis. The mind is plagued by questions of how? when? why? or what?
PRACTICE SUGGESTION:
Rather than freeze or panic, I take the initiative for being positive and inquire with
constructive questions, an openness to learn and a willingness to experiment.
Ask yourself: How do I recognize this habit of doubting?
Mantra: ‘I am open and willing!’ – Do this several times a day, .the more the better!
We get caught up in the negative because we react and the reactions manifest themselves as
judgements, accusations or criticism. When our vision and attitude remain judgmental or
critical, they do so because there is no input of positivity from the self to encourage or allow a
positive change. There cannot be a positive output when there is a negative input.
PRACTICE SUGGESTION:
‘See, but don’t see’, hear, but don’t hear’ My awareness is more free, rather than focussing on what is wrong, I look at how I can put something right by contributing a positive feeling or attitude. This anonymous and benevolent contribution is a generous act. Ask yourself: How do I feel when I criticize? Is there any value in it?
Mantra : ‘I am free and positive’ – Do this several times a day, the more the better!
As we develop spiritually, we feel a personal sense of value and clearly recognize our uniqueness without any false humility. With our personal independence we are able to work closely with others without comparison or jealousy. By valuing the self, above and beyond labels, name, fame, and approval, we no longer compare ourselves with others, but rather see their inner qualities and work amicably for the greater good.
PRACTICE SUGGESTION:
‘Feel a personal sense of value and recognize my uniqueness’.
Ask yourself: What is my uniqueness?
Mantra : ‘I recognize my uniqueness!’ – Do this several times a day, the more the better!
Fear can have many shapes and sizes – fear of loneliness, future, disease, failure, rejection and judgement from others, loss etc. When there is any type of fear there is neither openness or willingness and therefore no confidence, resulting in dependency and expectation.
Ask yourself inside: Do I have any fear? Do I have any dislike of anyone? Do I still look at the weaknesses of others? When you look at the defects of others, those defects enter you. If you want to become fearless, then stop all dislike or hatred of others.
PRACTICE SUGGESTION:
Learning to love and look only at virtues and specialties, I will then become virtuous. By
being fearless, I become strong and stable, even when I am in the midst of challenges.
Mantra: ‘I love and look at virtues’ – Do this several times a day, the more the better!
To forgive means to forget the negativity of the past. To forgive the self is to have the ability
to forgive others too. When I love myself and am able to learn from all that happens, I am able to forgive myself too. I can use what I have learned to progress. I become able to understand the other person’s perspective and I am able to forgive them too.
PRACTICE SUGGESTION:
I forgive and forget my own mistakes and those of others and I remember only the positive. By creating a positive environment, I make it easier to overcome my weaknesses and realize my own potential and that of others.
Ask yourself: How can loving myself enable me to let go of the past?
Mantra : ‘I forgive and forget’ ,– Say this several times a day, the more the better.
The key to having control over the mind is to understand who I truly am. Where is my mind located? Who is thinking? Which of the roles that I play is me? The real ‘I’ or ‘me’ is spiritual and
unique. Although the real ‘I’ sits in the physical body, in the centre of the forehead, it is not part of the body. It is a non-physical tiny point of pure light that is filled with feelings of peace.
The mind is the thinking power of the real ‘I’.
SUGGESTED PRACTICE:
For a moment, I, the being of light, take charge of my mind…I visualise an image of a point of light knowing my original state of peace…I create a thought of deep peace…I hold this thought and gradually it becomes a feeling of deep peace. A feeling that gives me comfort and strength and stays with me as I return to my everyday activities.
Mantra : ‘I am a being of peace’ – Hold this thought and feel it
for at least a minute and several times during the day.
When you value your uniqueness, you become strong and free, not bound by success or
failure, by your talents and opinions, by your relationships and past experiences. You are not
overly lifted by words of praise nor do you feel crushed by misunderstandings or dislike.
Actually, valuing the self is not a matter of what I am doing in life, but rather the degree
to which I bring quality and virtue to each act.
SUGGESTED PRACTICE:
In quietness, I step back from the image others have of me and learn that I have an original value that cannot be destroyed, damaged or copied. I get in touch with this inner blueprint and feel the value of the ‘real me’ so deeply that self-respect begins to blossom. I feel loving towards
myself and others.
Mantra: ‘I am a being of love’ – Hold this thought and feel it for at least a minute and several times during the day.
